Ok so various news outlets have been covering this story about Hatsumi, the last surviving student of the last fighting ninja master Takamatsu Toshitsugu... and how Hatsumi is a ninja... and they interviewed him... and it is really awesome... dot dot dot.
That is all well and good, but some of the deep cuts, some of the links to links to links from these stories, reveal some very interesting ninja facts that you may not have otherwise been aware of:
"Hatsumi started by training Okinawa Karate and Judo, and became expert on Judo during the 50s. At that time he trained US soldiers at a military base in Japan, and after realizing that even a Judo master kan be defeated if the attacker is strong enough and using tricks, he started searching for something better. He found it in Takamatsu Toshitsugu who became his teacher."
"By experiencing the confrontation of danger, the transcendence of fear or injury or death, and a working knowledge of individual personal powers and limitations, the practioner of ninjutsu can gain the strength and invincibility..."
DUDE! Invincibility?! So, a Ninjitsu master can kick a Karate and/or Judo master's ass! I knew ninjas were awesome, but that is REALLY awesome.
"13 year old Judo expert [Hatsumi] flung away 60 gangsters..."
DUDE! Hatsumi was only 13 and he kicked 60 Japanese gangsters asses. It was in the newspaper. That makes it true.
Finally, how about some proof that a 5th level Ninjitsu master (it goes up to 15th level) can dodge a sword with his eyes closed. Actually, that is the requirement for being a 5th level ninja:
"Going for his fifth-level ranking is Phil White of England, who kneels on the floor with his eyes closed. Behind him stands Hatsumi, clutching a padded wooden sword that he plans to bring down on White's head. If White - with his eyes still closed - manages to dodge the sword, he passes; if not, he takes home some bumps."
