So, Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) sold us all out. She sided with the Republicans and gave serial asshole Gonzales more warrantless spying power.

The US Representatives for Minneapolis and St. Paul both said no to Bush's demands. All but one of the Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee and half of the Democrats on the Senate Intelligence Committee -- plus the Senate and House Democratic leaders Reid and Pelosi -- said no to Bush's demands.

But Amy frickin Klobuchar just loves Bush and Gonzales SO MUCH she voted yes.

In honor of the freshman Senator from Minnesota, I've changed my entire lexicon!

I no longer go to take a dump. I go to take a Klobuchar.

I encourage you to update your speech patterns accordingly.

Now, for a little more background info for those of you who care, there was this gap in FISA (the law that governs a secret court that isses warrants for things like spying, hopefully protecting the rights of American citizens) where a foreign-to-foreign "terrorist" conversation that happened to route through the US required asking the court for a warrant. They always issue them, and could do so retroactively within 72 hours, but Bush said that this wasn't good enough, and if the Democrats didn't make it so Gonzo can spy anytime he wants without a warrant then the Dems would be responsible for any terrorist attacks.

Democrats had a deal struck with the Director of National Intelligence, and then Bush killed the deal and demanded even more than just a simple fix to this intelligence gap allegedly caused by FISA.

Now to quote Glenn Greenwald, the Democrats should have said, "OK, we fixed this gap and here's our bill and if you veto it, and there's a terrorist attack, then it's YOUR responsibility [Bush]." And most of them did. The majority of Democrats in the House and the Senate did.

Not Amy, though. She caved to Bush's veto threat and further demands.
